In Nobel bookmakers, everyone was betting that the Nobel Peace Prize would go to the president of Ukraine. However, experts dampened Ukraine’s joy by saying that these predictions never come true. They were right. The Nobel Peace Prize went to Narges Mohammadi.
Narges Mohammadi is an Iranian human rights activist. They are currently in prison. Mohammadi fights to end the oppression of women in Iran. Iranian authorities have arrested Mohammadi 13 times. The activist received five sentences and a total of 31 years in prison and flogging – 154 strokes of the whip. The woman is now in a prison in Tehran, which is known for cruel torture of women. The woman is to leave the facility in 2026.
Narges Mohammadi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and for her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all. As Berit Reiss-Andersen emphasized, the Nobel Peace Prize is for the entire opposition movement in Iran, of which Mohammadi is the clear leader.
Mohammadi is fighting to introduce freedom of speech in Iran, abolish the death penalty and make pro-democratic reforms.
