After Jose Mourinho was bought out by Real Madrid in the summer, there has naturally been a lot of talk about Andreas Schjelderup, but now it looks like the Premier League will be the next stop.

Viaplay expert Petter Veland is not convinced that Schjelderup or national team colleague Fredrik Aursnes will make the trip over to “Los Blancos”.
“Not to disparage either Schjelderup or Aursnes, but it’s more about the club Mourinho has gone to and the standard that is required there, and not least the players who are already there, and the job that has already been done in the transfer market,” he says to Nettavisen.

Now it could be a hit for Andreas Schjelderup. Tottenham have put their cards on the table, and the bid is huge: €45 million straight up, plus another €10 million in bonuses – a total of a staggering €55 million for the 22-year-old Norwegian. Portuguese side A-Bola follow up by saying that Benfica does not reject the total package, but wants a different distribution: 50 million euros fixed money and only 5 million in variables. From Bodø boy to big club
The story of Schjelderup is pure fairy tale. He was just a teenager when he exploded at Bodø/Glimt and made the move to Benfica in January 2023 – a dream move for the young winger. But the road in Lisbon was steeper than expected. Little playing time and tough competition meant that he had to be loaned out to FC Nordsjælland to find his rhythm again. And he did – with interest.
Last season, he was back in earnest in the Benfica shirt. 43 games, 10 goals and 7 assists later, he has proven that he can handle the pressure. He was also present when Norway took the step into the World Cup in 2026 – another proof that he belongs on the biggest stages.
Tottenham are chasing Nordic quality
Now the turn can go to the Premier League and a Tottenham that is known for investing in young, technical and attacking players. With his pace, dribbling and eye for goal, Schjelderup fits like a glove in Roberto de Zerbi’s system.
The question is whether Benfica and Tottenham will be able to agree on the structure of the deal. One thing is certain: We can witness one of the biggest Norwegian transfers ever – and right in the middle of it is a 22-year-old from the north with the whole of football Europe at his feet.
