Mohamed Salah has arrived in Turkey and is being photographed in Trabzonspor’s shirt – the transfer is fast approaching.
The 34-year-old left Liverpool in June after nine formidably successful years on Merseyside. With 257 goals for the club, he is only beaten by Ian Rush (346) and Roger Hunt (285) on Liverpool’s eternal leaderboard. He won nine trophies in red, including two Premier League titles and one Champions League title.

Salah has been heavily linked with Besiktas, but that deal stalled – and gave Trabzonspor the opportunity to hijack the superstar.
Medical test – then Trabzon
Salah will undergo medical testing in Istanbul during Wednesday, before traveling on to Trabzon later the same day. He has already started to make his mark on social media – in a video from the flight, he says:

Trabzonspor confirms negotiations
Trabzonspor finished third in the Turkish Super Lig last season and won the Turkish Cup. The club will also play Europa League qualifiers later in the month.
“Negotiations have been initiated to transfer Mohamed Salah, who is clubless, to our club,” the club confirmed in a statement on Tuesday evening.
From star to ostracized in Liverpool
Salah signed a two-year contract with Liverpool in April 2025, following a brilliant 2024/25 season in which he scored 29 Premier League goals and provided 18 assists – tying the league record for most goal involvements in a single season.
But 2025/26 was a season to forget – both for Salah and the club. There were only seven league goals and seven assists, and he ended up in open conflict with the then boss Arne Slot. After a 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa, Salah publicly criticised the team’s style of play and demanded a return to the dreaded “heavy metal” football that made Liverpool so superb under Jürgen Klopp.
When the contract expired, both parties agreed to go their separate ways. For a long time, Saudi Arabia looked like the most likely next stop – but instead it will be Trabzon, a small town on the Black Sea coast, that will have the pleasure of seeing Salah in his colours in the coming years.
