Get out your cap and pour a whiskey.

It’s been over ten years since Tommy Shelby first stepped out of the smoke and into British TV history, with cold eyes, undercut hairstyle and razor blades sewn into his cap. Since then, Peaky Blinders has gone from being a cult drama to a global phenomenon. Six seasons of political deals, family betrayals, power grabs and perfectly timed slow-motion confidence made it one of the BBC’s most iconic modern dramas, and made Cillian Murphy an unlikely poster boy for post-war brutality and monochrome suits.

When the final season aired in 2022, it seemed like the end. Tommy had ridden off into the fog, cancer-free, but still haunted. But creator Steven Knight always hinted that the story wasn’t quite finished. Now we know how big his plans really are.

Peaky Blinders is back. There will be a feature film, and after that a full-fledged sequel series set in the 1950s, with two confirmed seasons.

The first full trailer gives us a first real insight into how high the stakes have become as the action of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man unfolds. Get a glimpse of the star-studded cast (Cillian Murphy is joined by Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Sophie Rundle and Stephen Graham, with Barry Keoghan as his son) in a wartime epic filled with suspense.

After years of rumors, delays, and cryptic quotes, the Peaky Blinders movie is not only real, it’s been fully shot and officially titled Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. The film is now in post-production and will premiere in select theaters on Friday, March 6, before being released on Netflix on Friday, March 20, 2026.

Set in Birmingham in 1940, the story throws Tommy Shelby into the chaos of World War II. Forced out of a self-imposed exile, he is dragged back into a world of violence and politics for his most devastating showdown ever. With the future of both his family and his country at stake, Tommy must confront the demons that have shaped him and decide whether to face his legacy or burn it to the ground.

A star-studded cast and epic ambitions

Positioned as the explosive next step in the Peaky saga, this film is believed to pick up the thread right after the events of Season 6, in which Tommy Shelby, wrongly diagnosed with a terminal illness, walked away from his empire, ready for revenge against those who manipulated him. The title, The Immortal Man, first hinted at in a now-deleted Instagram post from makeup designer Nadia Stacey, seems apt; Tommy has looked death, war, madness and betrayal in the eye, and yet returns, more mythical than ever.

Cillian Murphy reprises the role of Tommy Shelby and is also an executive producer, with Steven Knight serving as writer and producer of the story he has developed from the very beginning. The film is directed by Tom Harper, and the cast includes Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Sophie Rundle, Barry Keoghan, and Stephen Graham — making this the most star-studded Peaky ensemble yet.

Knight has described the film as “a very specific story, set in a specific time”, one that is expected to mark the conclusion of Tommy’s arc, or at least the version of him we’ve known for a decade. With a double release in theaters and Netflix, the goal is to deliver the cinematic scale fans have always imagined for the Shelby family’s final chapter.

Sequel series: A new era for the Shelby family

If the film is the end of Tommy’s regime, then the sequel series is the start of something new. Announced in October 2025, the Peaky Blinders sequel will consist of two seasons of six episodes each, set in 1953, as Birmingham rises from the devastation of World War II. The original world of Peaky was shaped by the scars of World War I. This next era belongs to a post-World War II Britain, rougher, bolder and more unstable than ever.

At the heart of it will be a new generation of Shelbys.

Knight has said that the series will explore a city that is rebuilding itself from the ashes, not just physically, but politically and economically. The stakes are no longer just gangland wars. They are intertwined with the ownership of Britain’s industrial future. As Knight puts it, there is “a brutal battle of mythical dimensions” for control of the rebuilding of Birmingham, and the Shelby family is naturally in the thick of it.

Details about the new characters are still secret, but don’t expect a complete reboot. This is a sequel, rooted in the world Peaky Blinders built, with connections to the original story and likely guest appearances or crossovers from familiar faces. Although Tommy’s direct involvement has not been confirmed, Cillian Murphy is still involved as executive producer, guiding the next generation behind the scenes, if not on screen.

The production is a collaboration between Kudos and Garrison Drama, with both BBC and Netflix involved, ensuring global distribution and high production value. Knight remains front and center, backed by an impressive roster of executive producers including Murphy, Karen Wilson, Martin Haines, Jamie Glazebrook, and Mona Qureshi. The BBC’s Lindsay Salt has called it “a groundbreaking show” and hinted at the “epic scale” of what’s to come.

Filming is scheduled to start soon in Birmingham. No release date has been set, but hopefully we’ll know more when the movies arrive. Stephen Knight continues to stay incredibly busy with the recently released House of Guinness and writing the upcoming Bond reboot – who knows where he’ll find the time.
