FIFA in a storm: New revelations about Infantino’s alleged “mistress” shake the football world

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has had a tough period. The criticism hails after the way he approached Donald Trump before the World Cup in 2026, and his popularity has only waned since then.

But his biggest misstep seems to be the plan to privatize the World Cup. The proposal to sell shares in FIFA’s crown jewel provoked strong reactions, and many have now turned against the most powerful man in football. UEFA in particular has been at the forefront of demands for Infantino to resign.

Unlike his wife, who has chosen to stay, we can divorce Gianni Infantino, and if that doesn’t work out, let FIFA sail its own corrupt seas.

The revelations that shake

Now, however, new and far more personal revelations have emerged. According to The Telegraph , UEFA allegedly paid an alleged mistress of Infantino while he was working as general secretary of the organization.

The woman, who was then a junior employee, is said to have received a six-figure sum after the alleged relationship with Infantino – who is married and has four children. The information comes from sources close to the case.

In addition, she is said to have been promoted by Infantino during their relationship. When she later left her position, the football organization reportedly paid for her to pursue an MBA at a business school – with an annual tuition fee of around £45,000.

The woman is said to have originally held an administrative position when the relationship started, but was eventually promoted to a far more lucrative leadership role. When she eventually left UEFA, Infantino reportedly used her connections to get her a new well-paying job – and later redirected UEFA funds to secure her severance package.

UEFA’s response

In a statement, UEFA admits that a payment was made, and that they were aware of the allegations that the woman had a relationship with Infantino. The European Football Association says it has since “tightened” the rules to “reflect what exists in a modern, high-profile organization.”

FIFA rejects everything (obviously)

FIFA has also responded to the accusations – and the rejection is categorical.

“President Gianni Infantino strongly denies these allegations. They are completely untrue,” a FIFA spokesperson said in a statement.

“Any suggestion of inappropriate behavior or violation of laws or regulations is defamatory. No employee of either UEFA or FIFA has ever complained about Infantino’s behavior, because there have never been any incidents in which he was involved.

The spokesperson further emphasizes that all actions related to employees – including severance packages – have always been approved by the relevant board members and in accordance with applicable rules.

Platini’s role

According to The Telegraph , Infantino is said to have been confronted with the affair by Michel Platini, who was UEFA’s president at the time. It was reportedly agreed that the woman would leave the organization with a six-figure payment in euros. – Here I agree, if you have been intimate with the FIFA boss you need a hefty dirt allowance.

The case once again casts dark shadows over football’s supreme leader – and questions both the judgment and integrity of the man who runs the world’s biggest sport.
