The Oasis frontman, who has been a City supporter all his life, took to social media to dismiss suggestions that his club could face the harshest punishments available.
“Just was told by someone in a very, very high position that if we lose our appeal, which we don’t, we get a FINE and TRANSITION BAN and that’s it, so all you desperate neurotic *BUBBLES can calm yourselves down to race MCFC LG x,” he wrote.
When a follower asked if he was allowed to share that information, Gallagher replied, “Just said it, stay tuned.”
He did not say who had given him the information, and neither the Premier League nor City have commented on what sanctions the club may face.
Piers Morgans, who is an avid Arsenal fan, could not hold back his response:
Morgan, who is an Arsenal supporter, responded with a pointed reminder of Liam’s history of insider information. “Is that the same fantastic source that told you that Pep stayed?” he wrote.
It was a reference to May, when Liam claimed that he had “just hung up the phone” with Pep Guardiola, who had told him the opposite of the reports that he was leaving. Guardiola announced that he was leaving the club later that month, and Enzo Maresca was hired as his successor.
What punishment can Man City face?
Liam’s claim would represent a far milder outcome than many have predicted. Points deductions, relegation, and even the deprivation of previous titles have all been discussed as possible sanctions.
However, the BBC has reported that there is little appetite in Premier League circles to deprive City of honours won during the period in question.
Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has written to supporters insisting that the club remains confident of “proving the club’s innocence”.
