Melissa Barrera was abruptly fired from the production of “Scream VII” after expressing her views on the conflict between Palestine and Israel in the Middle East on social media. The film’s director assures that he had no influence on this decision. After the incident, over 1,000 actors supported Barrera and her attitude. How? Read our article.

A few weeks ago, Barrera showed her support for Palestine in its conflict with Israel on her Instagram stories. The actress then stated that what was happening in the Gaza Strip was pure genocide and ethnic cleansing. She was fired from the film “Scream VII” for her views. After learning of the studio’s decision to fire her, she said she would rather be excluded by those she includes than be included by those she excludes. Now her colleagues from the film industry are defending the actress.

A group of over 1,300 actors sent a signed letter to all sectors of art and culture, asking that pro-Palestinian voices not be suppressed and silenced. The message was signed by, among others: actresses such as Olivia Colman, Juliet Stevenson, and Harriet Walter. The actors state that they cannot remain silent in the face of such blatant violations of international humanitarian law.

The letter reads: “We write as artists and cultural workers united in our commitment to justice, dignity, freedom, and equality for all people in Israel/Palestine. We hold every life precious and mourn every death, the scale of the violence unfolding in Gaza demands our collective attention and action.”
