The Süper Lig has big ambitions. So have the Istanbul-based clubs. Icardi, Victor Osimhen, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Leroy Sané. These are some of the profiles that cast/have thrown shine on the Turkish league. Now one of the biggest in the football circus is convinced to choose Turkish turf.
Then it was done. After months of speculation, first about Salah staying at Anfield, then about various new clubs. It landed on Turkish football and Trabzonspor. For us up here, this is the club Alexander Sørloth showed the football world what lives in him.
On Thursday, Trabzonspor confirmed the signing of superstar Salah, where a two-year contract was signed.
According to The Guardian , the Turkish club have manoeuvred themselves to be able to offer the Liverpool legend up to £14.5 million a year.
The PR value of having Salah in the squad is of course huge, but for Trabzonspor it is about cutting the gap to Galatasaray and the Champions League ticket. Last season, the club took third place and Europa League ticket, eight points behind Gala.
Salah will now make a big contribution to closing the gap to the top. Football is perishable, so the Egyptian has to deliver from the start. We wish Salah the best of luck on his journey, but remind you that “our” Sørloth delivered 33 goals and 11 assists in 49 games in his debut season (and only) in the Trabzonspor shirt….
