Rose has been out of work since he was fired at RB Leipzig just over a year ago. The German 49-year-old was once Erling Braut Haaland’s coach at both RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund.

Sky Sports writes that Bournemouth have agreed to appoint former RB Leipzig boss as Andoni Iraola’s successor.

Bournemouth have reached an agreement to appoint Marco Rose as Andoni Iraola’s successor at the Vitality Stadium. Iraola confirmed on April 15 that he would leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Bournemouth have found their new general

This week, it became clear that Bournemouth were unable to convince successful coach Andoni Iraola to extend his contract. Thus, the Spaniard goes straight into the job search queue after the end of the season – but he is unlikely to be unemployed for many minutes. The success he has had with Bournemouth, who were relegation candidates in the 2022/23 season, has not gone unnoticed.

Bournemouth travel to St. James’ Park to face Newcastle in the Premier League later this Saturday.

In recent days, several candidates have been linked to the job on the south coast. Now it is reported that the choice has been made.

Marco Rose takes over – confirms Sky Sports

According to Sky Sports, the choice fell on Marco Rose. The German will reportedly lead Bournemouth from after the summer break.

Rose has struggled to find his rightful place since leaving Red Bull Salzburg in 2019 and Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2021. He has stayed in the Bundesliga and managed the big clubs Dortmund (one year) and RB Leipzig (two and a half years), but without achieving much success. Since March 2025, Rose has been without a coaching job.

When the Tottenham job was about to become available, Rose’s name was mentioned. However, it ended with Tudor and then De Zerbi.

Haaland coach ready for Premier League

Now it will be the Premier League for the German. It will be very exciting to follow Marco Rose – former Haaland coach at both RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund – as the new Bournemouth coach.

Although Iraola’s departure was a hard blow for the “Cherries”, it did not come as a big surprise.

Bournemouth had contingency plans in place, and had already examined both Rose, Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna and Rayo Vallecano’s Íñigo Pérez.

Who is Marco Rose?

Rose (49) has been without a club since he was sacked at RB Leipzig in March 2025, and he has never been a manager in England before.

But he does not lack experience. He has coached Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Red Bull Salzburg. Rose was also one of the candidates Tottenham Hotspur considered when Thomas Frank was sacked in February.

Iraola on the Rose rumors

When Bournemouth’s current manager Iraola was asked about the club’s interest in Rose, he replied to BBC Sport:

“I know him, but I can’t comment on other coaches. Because I’m talking to the club, I have some information. I’ve heard names, but it’s a decision they have to make. Whoever they decide on – when they sign the new manager – you can ask me who’s coming and I’ll try to give my opinion.”

Will Iraola’s summer departure speed up the coaching carousel?

Marco Rose comes straight from the Red Bull school of football development. He started his coaching career at his local club, Loch Leipzig, before going through RB Salzburg’s academy. There he was very successful – he won the youth league and later became the manager of the first team.

Then he went to the Bundesliga, where he coached Borussia Dortmund for a year and most recently RB Leipzig.

Why does Rose want to go to the Premier League?

He wants a new challenge, simply because he has already experienced so much in the Bundesliga. By going to the Premier League and doing something similar to Oliver Glasner in recent years – i.e. proving himself in a new and tougher league – he can develop further both as a personality and as a coach.

Does Rose fit in at Bournemouth?

Looking at some of the basic stats this season, Bournemouth lead the Premier League in the number of ball captures. They make a lot of mistakes – but that’s part of playing with high pressure.

Red Bull wanted to introduce that particular style of play, and Rose helped develop it as an academy coach. While he didn’t have as much success in his final months at RB Leipzig, an adventure in a new league and culture might be just what he needs.
