Ruben Amorim is about to land after a few months in the “dryer” at the Premier League arena and in front of English journalists. Although Manchester United are still heading for a horribly weak Premier League season, the Portuguese has survived the first round of English winter football without being sacked. In Istanbul, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also working to make it to the end of the season unscathed, but here no one is questioning the coach.
It is quite clear that the Turkish media has great respect for the “Eagle of the North” Solskjaer. When there were two unnecessary losses in a row in the Süper Lig, it was the highest-paid players who got a lot of the blame. When Besiktas on Saturday sent Galatasaray players such as Victor Osimhen and Alvaro Morata on the bus with a 2-1 loss, it was Solskjaer’s dispositions that were highlighted – and qualities as a leader.
in the 1991/92 season, Besiktas went through an entire league season without a loss. No other club in Turkish football has been able to replicate this. When Galatasaray came to Besiktas on Saturday, the club had not lost in 27 games and was heading towards replicating the feat of their city rivals in the 1990s.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stopped this.
After the game, several of the major football media in Turkey highlighted the Norwegian’s dispositions, which helped sink Galatasaray and get super striker Osimhen, with his 20 league goals in 23 games, goalless off the pitch.
-Besiktas secured three points by putting Galatasaray under intense pressure every time the visitors had the ball
-Jonas Svensson re-enters the team as a right-back
-Solskjaer pushed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain back into a deeper midfield role into a sort of 4-6-0 formation
-Rafa Silva, who has scored 4 goals, with 3 assists with Solskjaer as boss, was again on top and thanked for the trust with the first goal against Galatasaray
The major newspaper Hürriyet also mentions Solskjaer’s qualities as a leader, something Manchester United supporters also greatly appreciated and missed under Rangnick and Erik ten Hag:
“Solskjaer has a quality I love. If things go badly, he admits it. He takes it in stride. And he tries to fix it by making changes in the right way.”
There is never any “bullshit” with Solskjaer. Liberating to experience for the supporters, in a football world where giant egos are in for the short run, and defend themselves against criticism by blaming the club management or individual players.
We add Solskjaer’s person, where it is allowed to have fun at work. In fact, players should have fun to perform. After two defeats, the Besiktas players could be more afraid of losing to Galatasaray than wanting to win. Solskjaer made sure that didn’t happen.
