Old holiday home in Changi becomes Singapore’s first co-living resort hotel

The 40-year-old property has been given a new lease of life. A brand new concept is now opening in the east: Coliwoo Resort Changi – Singapore’s first resort-inspired co-living hotel.

Looking for your next staycation goal? Then you can consider a new co-living resort in the east. Coliwoo Resort Changi, which previously served as a holiday home and temporary worker’s barracks, will open at the end of July – marking both Coliwoo’s and Singapore’s first venture into resort-inspired co-living, the company said in a press release on Wednesday.

Preserved 40 percent of the original environment

The ten-month restoration of the 40-year-old property on Jalan Loyang Besar has preserved almost 40 percent of the existing landscaping. The original terracotta roof tiles have been retained, and existing wooden screens have been reused for tabletops, benches and wall decorations.

Green initiatives include solar energy, rainwater collection, composting of food waste and charging points for electric cars.

The property spans 380,866 square feet and offers 380 rooms, common areas, commercial premises, and a range of amenities.

Inspired by colonial Singapore

The resort’s communal and private spaces are inspired by Singapore’s colonial bungalows with a black-and-white palette. Accommodation is offered in two categories:

  • Superior Studio (16.6 sqm): Two super single beds, suitable for up to two guests. Price from $190 per night.
  • Maisonette (33.4 sqm): Three super single beds, suitable for up to three guests. Price from $280 per night.

No extra bed or baby cot is provided.

Facilities for all tastes

The resort has everything from a co-working lounge, karaoke room, children’s playground, outdoor event plaza, gardens and a communal agricultural area. In addition, there is a water and fitness centre with a pool for adults and children, a hot tub, a fully equipped gym and an outdoor sports court.

Hungry guests can dine at the food and drink stall or stop by the local kiosk.

Experiences in the sign of nature

Coliwoo Resort Changi also offers nature-themed community experiences. Guests can take part in wellness activities such as yin yoga with sound healing, gong meditation and wellness raves. For socializing, there is a weekend BBQ, Sunrise Social Run Club with guided tours in Pasir Ris Park, nature walks and cycling routes.

Families can enjoy quality time through school holiday activities, weekend staycations, and outdoor team building.

State-owned properties get a new lease of life

Coliwoo Resort Changi is one of the most recent examples of the reuse of government properties. Between 2021 and 2024, the number of social actors converting state properties for community use has increased by 50 percent, according to the Singapore Land Authority. The practice can help preserve cultural heritage, shared memories and renew neighbourhoods,” says Elaine Tan, research director at the Centre for Liveable Cities.

Other co-living options in Singapore include 1925 Quarters, which has been converted from a listed retail property in Hindoo Road. Operated by Westwood Hostel, it offers 54 studio apartments with a minimum of three months’ rent, starting at $2,800 per month for the Deluxe Studio.
