“A player had to be completely insane to go there.”
Noel Gallagher has given a snide jab at Manchester United, comparing the team to the Libertines in an unflattering analogy.
A long-time and avid supporter of Manchester City, the Oasis legend recently appeared on a new episode of talkSPORT Drive, sharing his thoughts on the current changes Manchester United is facing.

This comes after Ruben Amorim was fired as the club’s boss at the beginning of the week after a heated press conference. Speaking about the team’s 1-1 draw against Leeds, Amorim lashed out at the club’s management and was later released from his position.
Now, Manchester United are left in need of a mid-season replacement, with names including Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca and former England boss Gareth Southgate among the bookmakers’ favourites to take over the role (via talkSPORT).
The latest is that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will sign a deal until the end of the season on Friday.
Another name that is widely rumoured to take over the position is Aston Villa’s Unai Emery – and when host Andy Goldstein claimed that Emery would have jumped at the opportunity to take the Manchester United job, Gallagher was quick to dismiss him.
“I think you’re living a little bit in the past there,” Noel said when the host suggested that going from Aston Villa to Manchester United would be a promotion.
“It used to be the case that that job and players going there was the pinnacle of English football, right? It is no longer,” he added. “A player had to be completely insane to go there.”
