This summer, Liverpool soared after Arne Slot’s debut season with a Premier League title. The transfer market was won, with £450 million worth of player reinforcements, players who aspired to wear the shirt of the Premier League champions. On the shady side, Manchester United found themselves after a horribly weak 15th place in the Premier League. Six months later, confidence has been drained at Anfield, while it is rising continuously at Old Trafford.
Although United legends such as Neville and Scholes shake their heads at the inability of the United team to keep pressure and intensity throughout games – it happened again against Wolverhampton – no one should take away from Ruben Amorim’s significant climb in the Premier League. One point behind Champions League ticket and eight behind title favourites Arsenal after 15 games, gives Man Utd a boost of energy and confidence. This will now also be exploited on the transfer market.
It is the midfield that has the top priority to strengthen, but Amorim has previously stated that the club is only looking for long-term solutions, if opportunities arise in other positions, United will act. One unique opportunity is Premier League star Antoine Semenyo, the other is also now Marc Guehi.
England’s best centre-back had half his body over at Anfield this summer, but the transfer was blocked. In January, Marc Guehi, on an expiring contract, can start negotiations with other clubs. Liverpool have been in pole position all the way, but according to The Independent journalist Miguel Delaney, United have now also expressed their interest in convincing Guehi to sign.
