Tom Cruise has set a new Guinness World Record during the production of “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” by performing a whopping 16 fiery parachute jumps during the filming of the film’s climactic flight sequence. Yes, Cruise jumped towards his possible death while his parachute was in flames — a whopping 16 times during the filming of the latest “Mission: Impossible” movie.

Paramount marked the record with a new behind-the-scenes video showing the wild-flying stunt.

“If this is twisted while it burns, I will spin and be burned. I have to kick myself out of the twist and then ignite in 10 seconds,” we hear Cruise say before one of the jumps. “We have to be really smart. I’m not saying that we should take risks. Of course, we don’t take any risks.”

“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” was marketed as Cruise’s last appearance as Ethan Hunt, making this fiery parachute jump his last stunt in the 29-year-old film series. When asked in Cannes about his future in the series, Cruise was still vague about leaving “Mission: Impossible” for good.

“I’d rather people see it and have fun, and we’ve had a fantastic time making it and it’s been a lot of fun. I just want you all to enjoy it,” the actor said. “Enjoy this and know that everything has led up to this moment right now.”

The film premiered in the United States during the Memorial Day weekend and has so far grossed $360 million worldwide. It debuted with a whopping $200 million, which is a record for the biggest opening weekend ever for a “Mission: Impossible” movie.

“This weekend was one for the history books!” wrote Cruise in a thank-you message to fans after the premiere. “Congratulations and thank you to every single filmmaker, artist, crew member and everyone who works at the studios. To every movie theater and every employee who helps bring these stories to the public — thank you.”

“To everyone who works at Paramount Pictures and Skydance, thank you for many years of partnership and unwavering support,” the actress continued. “And most of all, THANK YOU to audiences everywhere that we serve and that we LOVE to entertain. Best regards, Tom.”

“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” is now showing in theaters worldwide from Paramount. See how Cruise’s fiery skydive came to be in the video below.
