Sheriff John Budensiek has now released a statement. He said according to talkSPORT:

“Our investigation showed the following. Shortly before 2 p.m., a truck with a small trailer was heading north on South Beach Road and was about to turn into a driveway.

“The driver of that vehicle looked in the mirror and saw a dark Land Rover overtaking him at high speed. I don’t know what speed.

“The Land Rover continued to overtake, he saw it coming and tried to drive out to the side of the road, but this is a small two-lane road, and there was no shoulder for this man to drive out on.

“While he was trying to pull out to the side of the road, the Land Rover overtook him at the last minute, swerved to avoid a collision, but cut into the rear of the trailer of the pressure washer, wobbled to the side and rolled over to the driver’s side north of the truck with which it just avoided collision.

“The person driving the Land Rover managed to crawl out of the passenger door of the car, and was identified as Mr. Tiger Woods.

“Our DUI investigators arrived at the scene, and Mr. Woods showed signs of intoxication. They performed several tests on him. Of course, he explained about injuries and surgeries he has had, we took that into account. But they conducted some thorough tests at the roadside, and when it was determined, he was arrested and taken to the Martin County Jail.

“In the Martin County Jail, and also at the scene, we did not suspect that alcohol was involved in this case, and it turned out to be true in the jail. Mr. Woods conducted a breathalyzer test, which showed zero. However, when we asked for a urine sample, he refused, and he is therefore charged with driving under the influence, damage to property, and refusal to submit to legal test.

“No one was injured in the accident. Mr. Woods did not appear to be injured at all, and the other man was not injured.

Donald Trump and Woods are good friends. The US president was made aware of the accident on Friday and shared his thoughts. He said:

“I feel so bad for him. He has some challenges. There was an accident, and that’s all I know. Very close friend of mine. He is a wonderful person, a wonderful man. But some challenges.

Woods made his long-awaited return to golf last week when he competed in the final round of the TGL season. He revealed that he is trying to participate in this year’s Masters, which will take place in April. He said, according to the BBC:

“I’ve tried, but this body doesn’t recover like when I was 24, 25. That doesn’t mean I don’t try; I’ve been trying for a while. I’ve had a couple of serious injuries last year that I’ve had to contend with, and it’s taken some time. I keep trying – I want to play.

“I’ve loved the Masters tournament, I’ve loved being there since I was 19, so it’s meant a lot to me and my family over the years, and I’m going to be there anyway.
