Get a first look below at the debut trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth, the second time they’ve found a way to inject some fresh blood into the dinosaur-reviving franchise:

Universal’s blockbuster movie for the summer, it has a whole new gang heading to a remote jungle island full of reptiles the size of buses.

This time, it’s Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali running from the snapped jaws to T-Rexes and birds of prey, with the trailer promising dinosaurs deemed “too dangerous” to exhibit in the original Jurassic Park.

Anyone who saw the last, painful Jurassic film – 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion – may also consider it “too dangerous” to return to this well-dug-out franchise so soon after the last film’s belly flop. But there’s a strong cast here and a good team behind the camera – Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Rogue One) is in the director’s seat, knowing his way around a monster-sized blockbuster, while the original Jurassic Park screenwriter, David Koepp, is also back.

Jonathan Bailey plays Dr. Henry Loomis, the bespectacled scientist in the trailer, who is apparently kept alive by Ali and Johansson’s more world-weary gun-drama characters.

Of course, a scientist taking the lead in a Jurassic Park movie is nothing new – the series is full of them, especially Sam Neill’s Dr. Alan Grant, the franchise’s most iconic hero.

But it’s the potential link between this new Dr. and the old character that is perhaps the most intriguing recurring element of this new film.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Bailey (who you may recognize from the megahit Wicked) teased that Loomis has a history with Grant.

“I’ve always wanted to make Dr. Alan Grant proud,” the actor told Vanity Fair. “You’ll have to wait and see what kind of link there is between them.”

Now, there’s not much to go on, but that hasn’t stopped us – along with the many other series fans all over the web – from wondering… Is Dr. Henry Loomis, the “six-foot turkey chick” from the original Jurassic Park, all grown up?

An early scene in the original film shows a grant, who is stiff, verbally cutting a child down to size when the naughty child shrugs at the threat of a velociraptor in his prime as nothing more than a “six-foot turkey.” “Try to show some respect,” Grant jokes in return – after thoroughly describing how a bird of prey removes its prey before eating them alive:

Did the same boy take it to heart? Did he become a dino expert over the years as well? Is he then stupid enough to go toe-to-toe with the terrifying turkey?

We’ll have to wait until July 2 to find out, when Jurassic Park Rebirth hits theaters.
