The question no one thought would ever be asked after very successful years at Manchester City: Can Kevin De Bruyne join Liverpool?

Liverpool have given Kevin De Bruyne the opportunity to fulfill his childhood dream by sending him an “offer”, according to a well-known journalist.

De Bruyne grew up as a Liverpool supporter, and his favourite player was Ballon d’Or winner Michael Owen. So far in his career, the attacking midfielder has played for Chelsea and Manchester City in the Premier League.

He failed to play his way into the first team at Chelsea, but found his way back to top form at Wolfsburg before returning to England with Manchester City.

De Bruyne is now a modern-day legend at City after ten fantastic years with the club, during which he has won six Premier League titles, one Champions League, two FA Cup titles and a host of other trophies.

Now De Bruyne is on the hunt for a new club, as City have chosen not to extend his contract beyond June 30.

According to Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, Liverpool could seize the opportunity to sign the world-class playmaker, after making an “offer” to sign him.

Such a transfer would have been extraordinary, both because of De Bruyne’s legendary status at City and the fact that he was at Liverpool as a youngster.

It seems that Liverpool are willing to bet on the Belgian, despite his recent injury concerns.

However, the report focuses mostly on Napoli, who are competing with Liverpool and the Chicago Fire (MLS) to sign De Bruyne.

Napoli are “dreaming big” and have made a bold attempt to secure him. This approach is described as “concrete”.

Antonio Conte’s team feels they have a trump up their sleeve in the form of Romelu Lukaku. The striker has a close relationship with De Bruyne and could possibly persuade him to choose Napoli.

Kevin De Bruyne – one of the great stories of the transfer genre

It remains to be seen where De Bruyne sees his future. The 33-year-old has admitted that he is “surprised” that City have not offered him a new contract, as he feels he can still deliver at the top level of the Premier League.

Aston Villa have also considered a move for De Bruyne, and now Liverpool can amazingly be part of the game.

If Arne Slot strengthens his champion team with De Bruyne, it will be frightening news for fans of clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea – and not least Manchester City.
