The Premier League champions spent £446 million last summer, but could soon re-enter the transfer market.

Liverpool are reportedly considering making a record bid for a Champions League winner.

One can probably wonder how smart Liverpool spent £446 million on in the summer. High-profile players such as Alexander Isak (£125 million), Florian Wirtz (£116 million), Miloš Kerkez (£40 million) and Jeremie Frimpong (£29.5 million) all landed at Anfield.

However, perhaps only Hugo Ekitike, who joined from Eintracht Frankfurt for £69 million, has so far justified his price tag by scoring 11 times in 24 appearances for the Reds. – Liverpool’s defence of the Premier League title has not gone as planned, with Slot’s team currently in fourth place in the English top flight, 14 points behind leaders Arsenal.

Several fans have questioned whether Liverpool will enter the winter market, with the club already signing Senegalese youth centre-back Mor Talla Ndiaye earlier in January.

The 18-year-old will initially be part of Robert Page’s U21 team.

Meanwhile, the Reds have also been linked with a high-profile midfielder who would no doubt please Anfield fans.

As Spoten.com wrote earlier today, Liverpool management sees Real Madrid and England midfielder Jude Bellingham as a player who could change their flight this season.

The website claims that the English team is prepared to submit a €180 million (£156 million) bid, which would shatter their previous club record of £125 million spent on Isak last summer.

The 22-year-old is currently under contract at Los Blancos until July 2029, with the club adamant that they want the player to remain at the Santiago Bernabéu while Xabi Alonso tries to make his mark on the La Liga side. The report also claims that Real see the player as “untouchable”.

Real also have concerns about replacing Bellingham, with Fichajes reporting that “the club understands that replacing Jude Bellingham is not possible in the current market, regardless of the available budget.

“Furthermore, the player feels completely integrated. His influence in the dressing room and his prominence on the pitch reinforce the idea that he will remain at Real Madrid.”

Bellingham has recorded 43 goals and 32 assists in 122 appearances for Real Madrid since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2023.

The Englishman has helped the team win La Liga and the Champions League during his time in the Spanish capital and remains a key player in Alonso’s team.

Of course, prior to his move to Spain, the England midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, but he said a move “wasn’t as close as people portrayed it as” when speaking in 2024.
