We have had individual players on the Norwegian national team in the world class without having qualified for the European Championships or the World Cup Norway. Now that one of the “bench toilers” this year also clinches as one of Serie A’s best, then this bodes extremely well for the World Cup.
Leo Østigård has had to come to terms with being on the bench for the Norwegian national team this year. The centre-back helped Napoli to the Serie A title in 2022/23, then disappeared to Rennes, quickly sent on loan to Hoffenheim, before returning to Serie A on loan at Genoa in the summer. Here it has loosened up again for the fierce defender, full of offensive DNA. On Thursday, Serie A presents the Norwegian international as a candidate for a prestigious award.
Østigård is a given in the starting eleven at Genoa, both with Patrick Vieira being sacked in November and Danielle de Rossi, who has led the club just above the relegation zone.
The Norwegian international has shown Ståle Solbakken what he really has inside. With three league goals in a row and big games, he is now nominated as Serie A Player of the Month for November.
Congratulations!
Norway has quite a squad as we head into the World Cup playoffs. We love it!
