Henning Berg, who is now back on the holiday island of Cyprus as manager of Omonia Nicosia, had a very unsuccessful stay as head coach of Allsvenskan club AIK while Thomas Berntsen was sports director.

Now there has been an aftermath with Swedish tax authorities who absolutely do not agree with the Norwegian coach’s deductions on his tax return.

Henning Berg applied for a tax deduction after his time in AIK worth NOK 220,000, now he has been rejected.

Henning Berg was the head coach of AIK between July 2023 and June 2024. Now the Norwegian has been denied a tax deduction of more than NOK 220,000 for living expenses in Sweden, reports the Swedish Tax Agency. Berg tried to get a deduction for a double home, even though AIK already had one home, according to the tax authorities’ papers.

The Norwegian is also denied a fee of just over NOK 32,000 for subscriptions to various media and TV sports packages, which the Swedish Tax Agency considers to be purely private expenses.

Berg justified the latter deductions by saying that he wanted to keep up to date on various football players, leagues and clubs in Sweden and abroad “in order to be able to map the market, analyze competitors and the transfer market”.

The Tax Agency also punishes Berg with a tax surcharge of just over NOK 5200 for incorrect information in the tax return for the year 2023.

The only thing Berg gets a deduction for is the flights to Norway during the period. The cost of this amounts to just over NOK 8500.
