It’s boiling in the World Cup. Now it’s the turn of the quarter-finals, also a signal that the championship is coming to an end and “everyday life” in the Premier League and on the transfer market can return. For Oscar Bobb and Sander Berge, the confirmation of who will lead their club came when they return (after the World Cup final…) to the ball island.
Four days before Norway enters the clinch with England in the World Cup quarter-finals, things have happened in the Fulham part of London. Bobb and Berge have known this for weeks, but now the work permit and all the formalities are in place: Alvaro Arbeloa goes directly from his job as coach of the world’s biggest club, Real Madrid, to Craven Cottage. The Fulham owner can hardly contain his enthusiasm.

-Álvaro is, by his own admission, very ambitious. He has spent valuable time around the sport’s best players, clubs and methods – experiences that will benefit him here at Fulham. Álvaro also has a great interest in our academy and believes in giving young players a chance. It was great to hear from Álvaro, and it was also great to hear that he wants to play attacking football. All this and much more makes Álvaro Arbeloa the ideal match for Fulham, the owner boasts.
The Spanish coach knows English football well from his own playing days. He played for both Liverpool and West Ham, so he knows how the Premier League is experienced from the inside. That experience can be crucial in the starting phase at Craven Cottage – even if the challenge as a coach is completely different. Now he must make decisions from the sidelines, deliver results, convince the players and adapt to a relentlessly tight fixture schedule.
