For over seven years, FIFA rented an almost uninhabited office in the US president’s tower for almost $4 million.
Le Monde reveals one of the connections between US President Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino – but goes far beyond the friendship forged during the organization of the last World Cup, or the Peace Prize that the world’s top football body awarded to Trump himself. Important to pay Trump money so that he will continue to be cheerful.
“The International Football Federation (FIFA) is paying millions to the Trump clan, since the body opened an office on June 1, 2025 on the 17th floor of Trump Tower in New York. According to internal documents Le Monde has accessed, the global organization has agreed to pay nearly $4 million over seven years and seven months for the 450-square-meter premises, which are mostly uninhabited.
The agreement highlights the close ties between FIFA President Gianni Infantino and the White House holder, Donald Trump,”
FIFA, through its subsidiary FIFA Americas Incorporation, which is legally based in the state of Delaware, agreed to pay this amount to the New York-based company as of June 2025 – Trump Tower Commercial LLC, headed by Eric Trump, son of Donald Trump, owner and manager of the building. “The contract was signed by four board members in May 2025, with the signature of Secretary General Mattias Grafström on the first line,” the French newspaper adds.
According to these documents, FIFA did not visit elsewhere or compare offers with other companies before choosing Trump Tower as its headquarters – unlike what it had done in Miami. In light of these facts, several members of FIFA’s administration expressed internal concerns about the office lease, pointing to a possible conflict of interest and that the process had not followed the usual procedure. “The whole point, of course, was to buy goodwill.
On average, FIFA pays the private company associated with the US president around $470,000 a year – or $41,000 a month – for the premises, according to calculations by the French media. In other words, market prices for offices of this size on New York’s Fifth Avenue. The lease includes “a fixed annual increase of 2% [in rent] as a carryover of operating costs.” Although at the start of the contract a clause similar to a discount was included – fixed rent would be reduced by $19,000 per month for each of the first eight full months after the effective date – the amount is higher at the end of the contract: $533,000 for the last seven months, compared to $455,000 in the second year. “FIFA pays market rent for these premises and follows all local legislation,” the international organization explained in response to Le Monde’s inquiry.
