The story of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time as Manchester United manager has been rewritten over the past two seasons. With Erik Ten Hag’s 8th place in the Premier League, then 15th with Ruben Amorim last season, Solskjaer’s two seasons in the top 4 seem like an unattainable dream. It will be extra crazy that Solskjaer was sacked four months into his final season in 7th place in the Premier League, twelve points behind the leader. This, too, now seems unattainable for Man Utd supporters. Now it is reported that Solskjaer is already on the emergency list for Ratcliffe and the gang.
English Goal reported this week that there is a growing demand from Man Utd supporters to bring back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Now, a former journalist in the local newspaper in Manchester reports that Solskjaer could already have been in place at United.
Okay, a little confusing, but here’s the story. When Erik ten Hag was weighed too lightly, four months after he was considered as a long-term coaching solution by United boss Ratcliffe, several candidates were considered. The choice fell on Ruben Amorim, but according to former Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst (now Sun), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was considered for the job as interim manager if it turned out that the Sporting coach was not available on the market.
Ruben Amorim did not intend to leave Sporting before the end of the season, but was persuaded (it’s now or never) to jump off the successful train in Lisbon and move to Manchester. We are toying with the idea, what if Amorim had said no, or demanded to stay with Sporting for the rest of the season. Then there would have been a reunion with Solskjaer.
At the same time, this means that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is already on the list of candidates for Ratcliffe and the gang if Ruben Amorim suddenly loses confidence in the autumn.
Solskjaer is free and ready.
