The three-time Oscar-winning actor rejoins former co-stars Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci in the new sequel, which follows their characters twenty years after the original film.

When she was a guest on The Today Show to promote the film, Meryl said that as soon as she read the script for “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” she immediately knew it was going to be a hit — and that she jumped at the chance.

“I thought: This is a fantastic script. Then they called me up and put an offer on the table, but I said no, I’m not going to do it,” Meryl said.

She explained how she still ended up reprising her role as Miranda Priestly:

“I knew it would be a hit, and I wanted to see if I could double my price. Immediately they replied: “Of course”.

Taught herself to demand what she wanted

Meryl went on to say that it took her a long time to understand that she could actually do just that – that you can ask for what you want.

“I was sure it would be a hit, and they needed me,” she added.

“I wanted to do it, but if they didn’t agree to my demand, that was fine too. After all, I’m old. I was ready to retire.

“But it was a lesson for me. It was a fantastic way to start, so I was in a good mood when we started filming.
