Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is enjoying an excellent start to life at Besiktas in Turkey.
One player in particular has had a new spring under Solskjaer. – After several years without a job, Solskjaer took the job in Besiktas job Giovanni van Bronckhorst. – The former big club was in complete chaos, with failures at all levels.
He signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with the Turkish giants and is already having a transformative effect on the club.
Solskjaer showed incredible honesty and toughness early on by dismantling the club’s current system with some truths and the changes he wanted to make across the board. He has delivered on the pitch as well. Besiktas have won five out of seven games – a draw and a loss.
Their only defeat was to FC Twente in the Europa League and a 3-1 away win over Eyupspor on Friday night moved them up to fourth place in the Turkish Super Lig with 41 points.
Solskjaer’s impact has been immediate, and one player in particular is thriving under his leadership.
Since the Norwegian took charge, attacking midfielder Rafa Silva has scored four goals and provided the same number of assists.
He scored Friday’s victory, as well as registering two assists in an 86-minute outburst that saw him give a 7.2 rating on Sofascore.
Besiktas were actually 1-0 down in the opening minute at the Recep Tayyip Erdogan Stadium, but Silva equalised after a fluid team move that served as a perfect example of Solskjaer’s way of playing.
Solskjaer has a knack for getting the best out of his No. 10, similar to Bruno Fernandes who arguably produced his best work in a United shirt when he was at the helm. Solskjaer signed Fernandes from Sporting for an initial £47 million in March 2020, and he immediately improved United with goals and assists.
Media outlets in Turkey have been highly complimentary of the work Solskjaer is doing, with one outlet saying that the team has “regained team spirit” under his guidance.

Besiktas are back in action on Tuesday when they host Antalyaspor in the Turkish Cup, before hosting Kayserispor in the league on Saturday 1 March.
At the same time, Manchester United fans are really smoldering, not only towards manager Ruben Amorim, but also towards co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe who has not been able to reverse the negative trend that came after the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
There is now quite a lot of talk about bringing Solskjaer back to Old Trafford.
