And no one is surprised after three periods of Conservative rule in England.
Oslo is not on the top ten list of the most expensive cities in the world, even though it feels that way sometimes.

There is no greater love story than the eternal complaining of the British – it is our way of showing love. Of course, we have many things to complain about: the public transport, the government, the football results. But nothing beats the costof living. And especially the cost of living in London. So it’s really no surprise that London has ended up in the top-5 list of the world’s most expensive cities.
A new report from wealth advisor Henley & Partners has examined the costs of owning a home in different cities. The researchers looked at the average price per square metre for a “prime apartment of 100–200 sqm”. London finished fourth, which really puts the price of a Greggs sausage roll into perspective (thank goodness they still cost just £1.30 and are a mainstay of British culture – and lunch breaks).
Not surprisingly, the millionaires’ playground Monaco took first place, which is hardly a bombshell since house prices there surpassed 50,000 euros per square meter already in 2021 (according to Savills).
But it’s not all bad news: according to the study, London actually has fewer millionaires than before – the number has dropped by 12% in the last ten years. The only other city with negative growth in the same period was Moscow, which lost 25% of its wealthiest residents.
New York took second place on the list, with a staggering price per square foot of $27,500 – thanks in part to the 384,500 millionaires who live there.
The world’s 10 most expensive cities:
- Monaco
- New York
- Hong Kong
- London
- Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat
- Paris
- Sydney
- Palm Beach
- Miami Beach
- Los Angeles
Cities that almost made it into the top-10:
- Singapore (11th)
- Geneva (12th)
- Nice (13th)
- Portofino (14th)
So then all that’s left is to start saving…, if you’re thinking of moving to one of these places 💸
