Bruce Springsteen launched powerful attacks on US President Donald Trump and his “corrupt” and “treacherous” administration during his concert in Manchester on Wednesday (14.05.25).

In three months as President of the United States, Donald Trump’s family has become 3 billion dollars richer! – That’s a billion dollars per month. What is happening now is the biggest robbery in human history!.

The music legend spoke out critically of the Trump administration’s “corruption” and “incompetence” three separate times during the opening concert of his new UK and European tour with the E Street Band in Co-Op Live.

After opening the concert with “Land of Hope and Dreams”, Springsteen addressed the audience:

“It’s fantastic to be in Manchester and back in the UK. Welcome to The Land of Hope and Dreams Tour! The mighty E Street Band is here tonight to invoke the righteous power of art, music, and rock ‘n’ roll in dangerous times.”

Springsteen, 75, continued:

“In my home, the America I love, the America I have written about, which for 250 years has been a beacon of hope and freedom, is now in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treacherous administration. Tonight, we call on all who believe in democracy and the best of our American experiment to rise with us, raise their voices against authoritarian forces, and let freedom ring!”

New political message

Before the performance of “House of a Thousand Guitars”, Springsteen made further political comments:

“The last obstacle to abuse of power when the government’s distribution of power has failed, is the people – you and me. It is in the people’s union around common values that everything that stands between democracy and authoritarian forces lies. At the end of the day, we only have each other.”

Sharp criticism of Trump’s policies

During the introduction to the “City of Ruin”, Springsteen directed further sharp attacks against Trump and his political ideology:

“Something very strange, strange and dangerous is happening out there now. In America, they persecute people for using their freedom of speech and expressing discontent. This is happening now.

In America, the richest men rejoice in leaving the world’s poorest children to sickness and death. This is happening now.

In my country, they find sadistic pleasure in the pain they inflict on loyal American workers. They roll back historic civil rights legislation that has led to a more just and diverse society. They are betraying our great allies and supporting dictators against those who are fighting for their freedom.

They cut the budgets of American universities that do not bow to their ideological demands. They remove citizens from American streets and without due process deport them to foreign prisons. All of this is happening now.”

Believe in America’s future

Springsteen concluded with a message of hope:

“A majority of our elected officials have failed to protect the American people from an inept president and a runaway government. They have no understanding of what it means to be deeply American.

The America I’ve been singing about for 50 years is real, and despite its flaws, it’s a great country with great people. We will survive this time.

I have hope, because I believe in the truth of what the great American writer James Baldwin said: ‘In this world there is not as much humanity as one would like, but there is enough.’ Let us pray.”
