The forgotten Liverpool star has finally been given a second chance to revive his career.
Harvey Elliott is done at Liverpool – at least for now. The 23-year-old has agreed a season-long loan deal with La Liga club Valencia, and thus a year and a half’s nightmare is over.

To say that Elliott has had a tough time over the past year is a gross understatement.
In September last year, he left Liverpool for Aston Villa – after admitting that he did not want to “waste the years” at Liverpool, where he felt he was not guaranteed playing time.
The deal was a season-long loan with an obligation to buy for £35 million, subject to various conditions being met. The transfer would become permanent if he played ten Premier League games for Villa.
But also with Unai Emery, he was sidelined. There were only four league games – a total of nine games.
Thus, he returned to Liverpool before the 2026/27 season – with his future still unclear. Would he stay at Anfield under Andoni Iraola’s new management, or leave the club again?
This weekend, Valencia will host reigning La Liga champions Barcelona for the second year in a row at the Estadio de Mestalla, and for that Harvey Elliott will be presented.
“A new start for me”
Now the answer is clear. Elliott is leaving Liverpool for Valencia – on a season-long loan.
Valencia, who finished 9th in La Liga last season, covers the majority of his salary, according to Fabrizio Romano. The medical test has already been carried out.
“I’m incredibly happy to be here. Valencia is a big club with a great history, and I can’t wait to get started,” Elliott told the club’s website.
“I needed a fresh start and this feels just right. I want to give everything for this team and help Valencia achieve their goals this season.
Previous reports have claimed that Elliott’s Liverpool contract would expire next summer – which would mean that a loan in 2026/27 would be the same as accepting to lose him for free next year.
But that’s not true. Elliott is under contract with Liverpool until the summer of 2028. That means he could either return to Anfield and fight for his place next summer – or be sold permanently after a season in Spain.
Iraola: “Had to make tough choices”
Elliott impressed greatly during Iraola’s first pre-season as Liverpool manager. Nevertheless, he was left out of the squad for the Premier League games against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest.
“With Harvey … I can only choose 20. Harvey is trying and improving every week, but I still prefer other options,” Iraola said earlier.
“Now it’s a new week and new opportunities for everyone. They have to keep that mentality.
Now Elliott gets the chance to show what he can do in La Liga. Valencia coach Rubén Baraja is clear about what he expects:
“Harvey is a player with great quality and a will to win. He will contribute a lot both on and off the pitch. We are happy to have him here.
