– the new amazing four recreated iconic cover in London

There are many well-known walks – the walk of shame, like an Egyptian, on sunshine… The list is long. But one stroll stands out: The Beatles’ iconic 1969 Abbey Road crossing. The trip that has adorned bedroom walls for 45 years has now been recreated by the new fantastic four in Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles films.

Over the weekend, fans witnessed a moment they will never forget. Harris Dickinson (John Lennon), Barry Keoghan (Ringo Starr), Paul Mescal (Paul McCartney) and Joseph Quinn (George Harrison) were seen in full retro hair and outfits as they recreated the famous album cover – 57 years after the original.

The iconic outfits in place

The four actors were spotted outside the Abbey Road studios in London, dressed in outfits that are etched into everyone’s memory: Lennon in a white suit with flared shoulders, Starr in a black suit with broad shoulders and a red tie, McCartney barefoot in a navy suit, and Harrison in a tight double denim.

The footage – admittedly grainy and filmed by passing fans – provides an intriguing (albeit brief) look at how the team behind the films transforms the actors into their musical counterparts. All we can say about the new looks is that the long mane of hair gives us powerful Covid flashbacks.

First glimpse of the actors in action

So far, we’ve only seen small hints of what the four lead actors look like in their Beatmania transformations. The first official images came in January, when exclusive postcards were handed out at the Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts – an institution co-founded by Sir Paul McCartney himself. This new recording is the first time we see the main men in action, in character, during the actual filming.

Star team also in the supporting roles

Earlier last year, it was confirmed that Mia McKenna Bruce, known from Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials Mystery, will play Ringo’s wife, Maureen Starkey. In addition, Saoirse Ronan, Anna Sawai and Aimee Lou Wood have been confirmed in the roles of Linda McCartney, Yoko Ono and Pattie Boyd, respectively.

Premieres in 2028 – but fans get a glimpse now

The films have already created both great hype and a lot of skepticism among fans of both the music and the filmmakers. With a premiere date in April 2028, it’s still a long time until we see the finished result – but these first glimpses give us just enough to endure.
