At the same time as Manchester United make a decision to reintegrate

Marcus Rashford is “out” of Barcelona’s plans. The Catalans are instead betting on Anthony Gordon and Julián Álvarez, while a top journalist has revealed the player’s chances of being reintegrated into Manchester United.

When Barcelona quickly secured a deal to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle, alarm bells must have started ringing at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are desperate to sell Rashford, and after a brilliant loan spell at Barcelona, hopes were high that the La Liga champions would easily exercise the €30 million (£26 million) purchase option.

However, Barca are on the verge of completing the Gordon transfer worth £75 million (including add-ons). Gordon plays in the same left-wing position as Rashford.

A new signing in the attacking line is needed after Robert Lewandowski left the club as a free agent. But here too, it is not good news for Man Utd, as Barcelona are now preparing an official bid for Julian Álvarez, believed to be around €100 million.

Moreover, Álvarez has informed Atlético Madrid that he wants to leave the club this summer, and Barcelona is his dream target.

It has been speculated that Barcelona could still go back for Rashford, even if they sign both Gordon and Álvarez.

However, according to the latest information from Spanish newspaper RAC1, the Rashford deal is CANCELLED if Barca do sign Álvarez.

Marcus Rashford’s transfer to Barcelona has been cancelled

They state the following: “Gordon is coming to take Marcus Rashford’s place, but at the same time improve both the sporting and financial conditions.”

“From a sporting point of view, they see him as more intense defensively and in the pressing game – and very similar to what Raphinha brings – and in an overall assessment, he is better than Rashford.”

“Financially, he occupies less space in terms of fair play, because of how the amortization will be distributed, and because he will have a lower salary.”

“Rashford is currently out of the club’s plans and a possible stay will only be considered if the striker who will come to fill the void left by Lewandowski does not arrive. This is considered a very remote possibility.”

Man Utd will NOT reintegrate Marcus Rashford

Thus, Rashford is on his way back to Old Trafford, but he will not be received with open arms.

Speaking to The United Stand, Ben Jacobs said: “Man Utd do NOT want Rashford back!”

Man Utd’s intention has always been, and still is, to sell Rashford without further detours. They hoped Barcelona would make it easy by activating the €30 million option, but if that avenue is indeed closed, other avenues will be explored.

Aston Villa have confirmed their interest, and Rashford has previously played for Unai Emery’s team. He flourished during a six-month loan spell in the second half of the 2024/25 season. Arsenal have also just been linked with the player.

The problem from Man Utd’s perspective is that Rashford has made it crystal clear that he only wants to sign for Barcelona – and no one else.

Therefore, he may refuse to negotiate personal terms with other stakeholders, hoping that Barcelona will eventually return for his signature later in the summer transfer window.

What should have been an easy sale is now anything but easy for Manchester United and Marcus Rashford.
