In January, Ruben Amorim was fired by Manchester United. The Portuguese had been the young, charismatic coach with a clear philosophy, but which unfortunately did not work in the Premier League. You can blame one, second and third for Amorim not having the success he and the United bosses expected, but when Michael Carrick enters the scene and wins Premier League games in a row, something Amorim hadn’t achieved in his 14 months. It was expensive to get rid of Amorim, now the sum comes on how expensive it actually was.
Under United boss Ratcliffe, it is nothing new to spend millions on bringing in a sporting director (from Newcastle), sacking Ten Hag, buying out Ruben Amorim, then sacking the sporting director after 159 days. So kick Amorim.

Man Utd announced their latest financial results this week, according to Sky Sports it shows that the club is on a positive path, but had to shell out £16.7 million to Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff in compensation.
Otherwise worth mentioning from Sky Sports’ review: “Man Utd’s operating profit is up by over £40 million in the nine months to 31 March 2026 compared to the same period a year earlier. Earnings are also up, supported by cost cuts off the pitch. The club still has $650 million in debt from the Glazer era.”
