The Manchester United boss got right

In all the buzz after the historic victory at Anfield, the fact that Sunday’s game was the turning point for something so much more important than winning a single game disappeared. Because with a win against Sunderland, then Liverpool, Ruben Amorim has finally broken the curse of not winning two Premier League games in a row. After the win against Chelsea in September, this was the focus of Amorim. Win two games in a row. So three. Then four. So five… The position of Amorim is now stronger than it has been in months. The United management deserves a lot of credit for the composure they have shown in the storm gusts in recent months.

Teamtalk’s football insider Dean Jones believes the signals from United now are that Ruben Amorim has all the peace and quiet in the world after the Liverpool win.

“It’s the kind of win he (Amorim) has been longing for, and it shouldn’t be underestimated how important it is to keep him in the job for the foreseeable future,” Jones begins.

“We reported during the international break how the club had resisted the temptation to put up a list of potential successors to him, and that was because they really wanted him to succeed and didn’t want him to feel any pressure back in the national fixture list. The games that were supposed to come before the next international break are very important and to get a win in the first game against Liverpool is huge.”

“Given what I’ve heard recently about the club’s intentions, I now see that he’s safe for a while. I don’t think he will be in danger again anytime soon. He needs to keep in touch with the Champions League places as part of the club’s ambitions for the season, and given that he is now two points behind the reigning champions, this is perfectly fine.”

“Obviously, there will still be potential for a bad period at some point in the season, but there is a much higher chance that Amorim will get the chance to play out the whole season and make a mark on why he deserves to be the boss of this team for the long term. Especially since the club plans to support him even more in the next transfer window.”

Ruben Amorim and Manchester United are in sync. Had Ratcliffe and the gang not kept their composure and given Amorim peace of mind, United supporters would hardly have had the historic victory against their arch-rival at Anfield.
