It’s tough to be a professional footballer, especially when you’re wearing the shirt of one of the world’s biggest clubs with the pressure to deliver every single week. Still, for us mortals, an existence with a few hundred thousand euros in weekly wages to train twice a day, show up for photo shoots and two fights a week, can seem anything but tiring. So when Marcus Rashford struggles to get to work on time, the 27-year-old is unlikely to get much sympathy. Not even from Hansi Flick.

Marcus Rashford returned to the ball island last week with a bang. Two Champions Lague goals in a Barcelona shirt against Newcastle, to a 1-2 win at St. James’ Park. On Sunday, the loaned Manchester United player sat on the bench in La Liga against Getafe. What in the hell happened? Coach Hansi Flick took “a Ten Hag”.

If there is one thing the German does not accept from his Barcelona players, it is being late for player meetings or training. When Jules Kounde was kept out of the starting eleven against Rayo Vallecano, it came crystal clear from the Barca coach: “It’s not that difficult to show up and do your job. It’s not just about me, but the respect for the other players and everyone else,” Flick said.

Marcus Rashford has clearly not grasped this clear rule. Because according to The Athletic, Rashford was late for training on Sunday morning. Later in the evening, Rashford sat on the bench as a result.

The Englishman conceded in the second half, Barcelona won comfortably 3-0. What makes it all special is that Rashford has been through the same drill with Erik ten Hag as manager at United. Rashford was dumped by ten Hag for a game against Wolverhampton after oversleeping for a team meeting.

With Hansi Flick following Rashford particularly closely since his transfer in the summer, it is strange that the 27-year-old, who has everything to prove after the chaos last season at United, is unable to respect attendance time.

Then Rashford has tested Ten Hag and Hansi Flick, we have to bet that Rashford is so grown up that there won’t be a second time at Barcelona.
