Almost immediately after Trent Alexander-Arnold announced he had decided to leave the club for Real Madrid and a hefty sign-on fee, Arne Slot brought in Conor Bradley at right-back. Now it was the academy player who was going to take the place. When Alexander-Arnold left the club in June, Liverpool also signed Jeremie Frimpong. With this, Slot should be well covered at right-back. Sunday’s historic loss at Anfield to Manchester United tells a different story.
The 22-year-old Bradley got 62 minutes on the pitch against United, replaced by midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai. In the podcast Rest is Football, former England international defender Micah Richards criticizes Bradley’s start to the season.

“Last season when Bradley filled in for Trent (Alexander-Arnold) he was excellent. He was energetic, he could tackle one-on-one, the Liverpool fans liked what he did,” Richards begins.
“This season in that Liverpool team, he is a shadow of the player he was. He’s playing in himself at the moment. He has to get out of his head and think he’s there to replace Trent, because he can’t. Trent was a player who is one in a million. At the moment, he looks like a nervous wreck. When you have a midfielder coming in to replace you at right-back, it shows that you have to do more,” says the former England international defender.
