Premier League players hate sitting on the bench. For a coach, it is the balancing act between fierce competition for places and a sense of unity between the players that provides the necessary team-play dynamic. At Chelsea, one of the players was apparently by being overlooked on match day, the response was to delete all traces of the club on his social media profile. This never goes down well with the supporters.
In August 2022, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly had decided to take the wild shopping spree at Leicester. The then Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel wanted to put the young centre-back Wesley Fofana to work quickly, Boehly wanted it differently. It was this quarrel that soured the relationship between the two egos, which ended with the sacking of Tuchel. Three years later, it is Wesley Fofana himself who creates a bad atmosphere at Stamford Bridge.
When Chelsea welcomed Crystal Palace to what was to be a tame Premier League opener (0-0), Enzo Maresca had paired Trevoh Chalobah with Josh Acheampong in central defence, not Fofana.
Fofana clearly didn’t take lightly the fact that the season started on the bench (he was out for much of last season with injury and surgery). The 24-year-old shocked supporters when he deleted all mention of Chelsea from his Instagram account, apparently in a criticism of the club about his playing time.
Here are some of the reactions from supporters:
“What’s going on with Wesley Fofana? He deleted everything related to Chelsea on his Instagram account.”
“This guy is another Garnacho on our team. Very unprofessional.”
“Wesley Fofana could end up as one of the three worst Chelsea signings of all time.”
« F**K WESLEY FOFANA! NO PLAYER IS BIGGER THAN THE CLUB

“I’m tired of Wesley Fofana’s injuries and the nonsense. He must go, no doubt about it.”
