Since Alex Ferguson’s title era, Manchester United managers have been compared to the Scot in one area: titles. With the Premier League trophy not finding its way to Old Trafford, Moyes, Van Gaal, Mourinho, Solskjaer (we’ll happily skip Ralf) and Ten Hag have been weighed too lightly. Harry Maguire was brought to United by Solskjaer, the years of the United legend have made a lasting impression on the English boulder of a player.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still stands as the best Manchester United manager since Alex Ferguson. There is intense work to be done for Ruben Amorim to change this, but so far the Portuguese is strongly involved in the historically weak 15th place in the Premier League. Harry Maguire has regained his key role in defence under Amorim, but reminisces about his time with Solskjaer.

In a clash with United legend Rio Ferdinand, Maguire pays tribute to “Ole”.

“We lost Ole, which was very disappointing, to be honest. Ole did an incredible job,” says Maguire. Where the 2021 team was weaker, but the players were trained in an incredible way by Solskjaer and his coaching staff,” says the 32-year-old.

Then comes a statement that shows that “more is coming”.

“I’ll probably talk more about Ole when I’ve retired, but the way he worked with us in the first two years is probably the best years I’ve had in a team,” Maguire said.
