The Manchester United boss is under increasing pressure after a weak start to the season.
After Michael Carrick led Manchester United to third place last season, the early stages of this season have been tough for Carrick. His team are 13th in the Premier League, with one win, one draw and two defeats in their first four games.
Carrick’s problems were exacerbated by the 3-2 loss to Brighton in the Carabao Cup third round at Old Trafford – a result that sparked angry reactions from supporters at the stadium, with some even beginning to question his position.

Michael Carrick, however, has the full support of United’s director of football Jason Wilcox, who wants the Englishman to stay.
INEOS is also said to have “no plan” to release Carrick from his duties. A source told TeamTalk:
“The club is convinced that they have a very good young manager in Michael Carrick.
“There will be no reflex reactions here.
“Things haven’t gone Michael’s and the team’s way in many ways so far.
“Two fantastic goals against Everton prevented the victory, in a game they should have won.
“Sunday’s game against Man City was decided by a goal that even the Premier League has since confirmed should not have been allowed.
The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell also claimed that there are no indications that United are looking for “coach readiness”, despite the recent review by both Carrick and the football department at large.
United are back in action away to Fulham on September 20 and will be looking to end a run of two defeats, having lost to Manchester City and Brighton in the last week.
Carrick is under contract at Old Trafford until 2028, after signing a two-year contract to become permanent head coach in the summer.

Michael Carrick dismisses speculation about Man Utd future
Carrick addressed the speculation during the press conference on Friday, claiming that he expects the team’s situation to improve – despite losing three of their first six games this season.
“I think it’s going to be a lot longer than one or two games of results. If you take all that away, it’s irrelevant to me. I know the club, I know the role, I know what’s expected here in terms of playing at a certain level. I understand all that,” Carrick said.
“In terms of future and ownership and how long I have, it’s absolutely nothing. It’s ridiculous to think like that in the position I’m in – it’s simply not on the radar. I understand what we have to achieve and where we are as a football club.
“There are two or three games in which we haven’t got certain results. Two or three games too many, because I hate to lose. But that doesn’t mean the world is collapsing. We have to perform, and we have a lot of games to plan for. That’s exactly what we’re doing.
On taking ownership of the weak form, he added:
“That’s why I’m here. It’s my responsibility, and that’s okay with me. It’s not a blame apportionment. We’re always looking for things to look at and find the blame – sometimes it’s too much.
“Blame me, it’s not a problem. I take responsibility. But it’s not about blaming people. It’s about finding solutions. It’s a collective thing. It’s really about what you focus on. I’m happy to take responsibility. No problem, it doesn’t bother me. I know where we want to go, and we want to get there quickly.
