The appointment marks the end of the candidacy process put forward by the City of Barcelona, FC Barcelona, the city council and the government of Catalonia. The project also received support from the Spanish Football Federation, while Wembley was the second candidate to host the final in 2029.
Camp Nou becomes the venue for the Champions League for the third time. The stadium hosted the final in 1989, when Milan beat Steaua Bucharest 4–0, and again hosted the decisive match in 1999, when Manchester United beat Bayern Munich 2–1.
The choice comes as the stadium completes its redevelopment process. The new stadium is planned to have a capacity of over 104,000 spectators, as well as new hospitality areas, accessibility, connectivity and services for fans.
Barcelona will once again host a European final
For Barcelona, UEFA’s decision means that the city is hosting a Champions League final after 30 years. The last edition held in the city was in 1999, played at the then Camp Nou between Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

The Catalan candidacy was formally submitted to UEFA on June 10, with a package of documents that included the technical, contractual, and institutional guarantees required to host the match. At that point, the organization still had to consider the proposals before making a final decision.
Now Camp Nou has a date to once again become the stage for the Champions League. On June 2, 2029, Barcelona will host the men’s final of the tournament, while the stadium must meet all operational requirements related to the event in advance.
