After David Beckham persuaded Lionel Messi and his Barcelona compadres to choose MLS, the American league has received a giant boost. Now European stars are gravitating to the United States – Saudi Arabian money bins and desert football are less attractive. For Philip Zinckenagel, this means a lot of fun on American lawns.

Chicago Fire signed Bodø/Glimt star Philip Zinckernagel in 2025. For the Glimt supporters a loss, for the Fire supporters a warp. Because the Dane continued to do what he does best – wreak havoc with opponents’ defenses. This summer, it was time for Robert Lewandowski’s “downsizing” after great success at Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Barcelona, the world star chose Chicago Fire. It didn’t take many games for Zinckernagel and Lewandowski to find his groove on the pitch.

Zinckernagel has a contract until 2028 with the Chicago Fire. The former Bodø/Glimt star has already played his way into the MLS from his debut season in 2025. This summer, the signing came that will give the Dane something to tell future grandchildren about. Not only is he playing against Lionel Messi, now he was also going to play with Robert Lewandowski.

The Polish striker quickly got his first MLS goal, and who was behind the assist? Zinckernagel, of course.

On Sunday, the new attacking duo was once again on the move. The Chicago Fire are in the Leagues Cup. After winning the first game, it was time for Mexican Santos Laguna.

The Chicago Fire were behind after an early Mexican goal, but the MLS club turned the game around after halftime and won 3-1. Because from the start of the second half, Chicago coach Gregg Berhalter sent Philip Zinckernagel on the field, and it turned out to be a good decision.

After 72 minutes, the Dane made sure to equalize to 1-1 with his goal after a pass from Robert Lewandowski.

Assist Lewandowski, scoring Zinckerlangel.

In the 90th minute, Robin Lod made it 2-1 for Four, Robert Lewandowski couldn’t go goalless either and put in the 3-1 score deep into injury time.

Here we have a lot to look forward to from the new super duo Lewandowski and Zinckernagel.
