Two difficult years since the Danish attacking midfielder left Norway and the Eliteserien and left 15 million euros at Aspmyra!
Finally, it came off for former Bodø/Glimt star Albert Grønbæk!
Albert Grønbæk never got the desired start to his stay in Hamburger SV. On Saturday, it finally came off – with both a goal and an assist in an away win that could save the entire season.
Grønbæk came to Hamburg from a sporting slump. After leaving Bodø/Glimt, the road has been tough: first Rennes, then loans to Southampton and Genoa. But in February, he was brought in to do one thing – save Hamburger SV from relegation in the Bundesliga.

It took time. It was not until the beginning of April that the debut came. But in his fifth Bundesliga game – on Saturday – the Danish striker exploded.
Albert Grønbæk’s career so far – in brief
- Bodø/Glimt (2022–2023) – Came from Danish AGF and quickly became a key player for the Norwegian big team. He helped dominate the Eliteserien and Europe, and his creativity and running power made him a hot commodity in Europe.
- Rennes (2023–2024) – The transition to France was tough. He didn’t get any playing time, and he struggled to adapt.
- Southampton (2024, loan) – The loan to the Premier League was not a success either. Little playing time and a new club change awaited.
- Genoa (2024-2025, loan) – In Italy, he struggled to gain confidence, and his career suddenly felt like a long downturn.
- Hamburger SV (2025–, loan agreement with purchase option) – In February, he was brought in to save Hamburg from relegation. It wasn’t until April that the debut came – but once it came off, it really loosened up.
– Goal and assist as Hamburg took three vital points
Away against Eintracht Frankfurt, things really hit home for the 24-year-old.
After 51 minutes, Grønbæk’s debut goal in the Bundesliga came. A cross ended up at the back of the box. There, the Dane cushioned the ball in a controlled manner before sending it into the net at the back post – 1-1.
Just eight minutes later, he was back in the lead role. Now as a playmaker. Grønbæk served up a nice assist to Fabio Vieira, who made it 1-2 – the result that kept the game out.
The victory was Hamburg’s first since the beginning of March.
– The rescuer who signed up at the right moment
With only two rounds left of the season, Hamburger SV only needs a single point to ensure mathematical survival in the Bundesliga.
And the timing for Grønbæk – a Danish striker who has struggled for a long time to find his way back to the magic of Glimt – could hardly have been better.
