Thanks to a very successful launch of the new Switch 2 console, Japanese gaming giant Nintendo was able to report a significant increase in profit for the first half of the fiscal year.

From April to September, the group’s profit increased by as much as 85 percent compared to the same period last year, and landed at 199 billion yen (about 13 billion Norwegian kroner). The strong growth comes in the wake of the June launch of the long-awaited sequel to the successful Switch console.

The sales figures speak for themselves: already by the end of September, the company has sold over 10 million Switch 2 units. Based on the strong demand, Nintendo has adjusted its sales target for the console upwards from 15 to 19 million units for the full fiscal year.

Behind the impressive console success is also Nintendo’s iconic game catalog, which continues to deliver solid results. World-famous franchises such as Super Mario, Pokémon, The Legend of Zelda, and Animal Crossing have all helped strengthen the company’s position. In particular, new releases and reissues for the new console have met with enthusiastic reception, underscoring the strength of Nintendo’s combination of hardware and exclusive software.

With a solid start for the Switch 2 and a portfolio of beloved characters, Nintendo is well-positioned to continue its success going forward.
